The first impression is characterised by a warm maltiness that combines with honey-like aromas. Apple crumble brings a beautiful, buttery-fruity component into play, while fresh wood and mint provide a certain lightness. A subtle candyfloss note lends the whisky a gentle sweetness. Overall, a pleasant, typical Speyside profile, but without any major surprises.
On the palate, the Roseisle 12 Years is unexpectedly herbal, which gives it an interesting, slightly bitter flavour. This is followed by a creamy vanilla ice cream sweetness, which is quickly overlaid by strong oak and spicy ginger. Forest honey provides a pleasant depth and a buttery croissant note gives the whisky a certain elegance. The 55.6% ABV is well integrated, but still gives the whisky a noticeable strength.
The finish is long, spicy and dry, with dominant oak and an interesting mix of apricot, sandalwood and cinnamon. A slight white pepper note provides additional spiciness. Not spectacular, but a solid and aromatically well-balanced finish.
